Painted and silver stained glass
2014

Painted bird panels were common in Victorian front doors. I painted this one to replace a broken panel. The yellow is obtained by painting silver stain on to the back of the panel. In the kiln the silver ‘migrates’ into the glass and changes its structure to create the yellow colour. It is then actually part of the glass unlike paint which sits on the surface.
