I make traditional and contemporary stained glass designs. Please call me on 07910 418 723 if you would like further information or are interested in commissioning or buying. Please see below for more information about the process of commissioning and making stained glass.

How is stained glass made?

Stained glass windows are made from hand cut pieces of glass which are then held together with H shaped strips of lead called 'cames'. The process starts with a sketch.

The sketch is then used to produce a full-scale working drawing called a 'cartoon'.

The glass is cut to shape and strips of lead are cut and bent to the required lengths. The pieces are put together and held in place with horseshoe nails until it can be soldered.

Each joint is soldered to hold the window together. The window is then cemented to make it watertight.

The lead is antiqued using black grate polish and is ready to be installed.

Finished panels installed.
