Statement
I am a stained glass artist and am currently exploring the potential of glass by making stained glass panels (both free hanging and architectural), painted glass pieces and glass mosaics.
I am always conscious of the history of the craft when designing new pieces but want to revive this ancient artform to create new and exciting contemporary pieces. I am particularly interested in maps (both modern and historic), diagrams and aerial photographs and these have heavily informed my recent work. These items are a visual representation of an area depicting the relationships between elements and objects in that space. They can show the way and highlight barriers and in this way give us a different perspective on the world to reveal things previously hidden. This additional vantage point helps us to explore and understand the world.
In 2011 I won the Ashton Hill Award (2011-12) which is a training award given by the Worshipful Company of Glaziers and Painters of Glass. The award is a ten week funded placement in a noted stained glass studio. I took up my award at Barley Studio in York and worked on stained glass restoration projects as well as further exploring glass painting and design.
